VRobot

Project Description

During our third semester, the focus of our education was on innovation and prototyping. We learned about product design methodologies, such as design thinking, and how to manage the innovation of tech products.

For the semester project, our task was to follow an ideation process to identify a problem and develop a Virtual Reality product to address it.

We designed a Unity application that allows users to remotely connect to and control a UR3 robot using a Virtual Reality headset, enabling safe-distance operation.

Project Methodology

1. Ideation Phase 1: Problem Identification
- Identify a specific problem to solve.

2. Ideation Phase 2: Divergence
- Explore various potential solutions to the identified problem using ideation techniques.

3. Ideation Phase 3: Convergence
- Narrow down the potential solutions to select the most viable one.

4. Product Development:
- Pretotype: Created a high-level version of the Virtual Reality application.
- Prototype:Developed a functional prototype of the application in Unity, integrating devices such as a webcam and a 3D camera.

5. Business Development:
- Define the product's target persona.
- Ran a technology testing workshop on users to gather feedback on the product.

Project Contributions

1. Infographic Design:
- Created infographics to illustrate our product features, user specifications, user journeys, and personas.

2. Market Research:
- Conducted market research to identify potential end users.

3. Report Editing:
- Served as the lead editor for the project report.

4. Programming:
- Contributed to the programming of the webcam used to provide a view of the UR3 robot in the VR headset.

5. User Feedback:
- Conducted a technical workshop, interviewing potential users to gather feedback and improve the product.

Key Competencies Developed

1. User Market Research:
- Conducted comprehensive market research to identify the needs and preferences of our target users, ensuring the product was tailored to meet real-world demands.

2. Survey Development:
- Developed and distributed surveys to gather user feedback, enabling data-driven decision-making throughout the product development process.
3. Feasibility Analysis:
- Performed market research to assess the feasibility of the product and identify potential users.

4. Programming of VR Applications:
- Contributed to the programming and integration of the webcam, enhancing the functionality of the VR application.

5. User Feedback Collection:
- Conducted technical workshops to interview potential users, gather feedback, and implement improvements.
